Visitors from America!!!

The arrival of Spring here in Beijing has brought with it several visitors from Minnesota. Last Wednesday I (Laurie) cabbed to the Beijing airport to greet 6 students and 2 teachers from my old school in Delano. There was another teacher from Delano, Neva, waiting there for the group as well. Neva is an elementary school teacher who has been here in China for a month working with the English teachers at the sister school Delano has in Tongu (not sure on the spelling of that city). Anyway-it was great to catch up with Neva while waiting for the Delano group. After waiting for a short time, it was great to see some smiling familiar faces peek around the customs door and enter into this new world. I only got to see the group briefly-but that short time gave me a little taste from back home. One of the teachers, Jessica, was kind enough to pack one of her suitcases full of wal-mart and target requests that Julie had bought for me and sent along. I didn't get to see them for long, but boy was it nice!

Friday night another friend, Kathy, arrived in Beijing (above is a picture of kathy after eating a deep-fried scorpion at the night market--brave girl). Stupid-old-Laurie assumed that kathy would be arriving at the same terminal as the delano crew did-and of course that was not the case! so after waiting for nearly an hour, i got a phone call from riley saying kathy was waiting for me by a KFC. I knew there was only one KFC in the terminal i was in and it was not close to where i was, so at that point i knew i was in the wrong spot! So i hopped on a free shuttle to terminal two and picked up my college buddy. Kathy was here for 10 days! It has been great! i am going to try to go through our pictures and do day--by--day picture updates b/c we did so much!
